Another trip to the Dermatologist .....

For may people, an annual trip to the dermatologist has become a way of life.  Every year another group of suspicious moles, lumps and bumps has you wondering if you are going to need another procedure.  Unfortunately, many of the spots appear on the face, neck and other exposed areas.  We didn't know that all of the sun exposure was a huge mistake, and now more and more of us are paying the price for those days.  For many of us, the choices available are limited, disfiguring, and painful (see the table above). 

La Jolla NanoMedical is developing a less invasive, non-surgical method of removing skin cancer.  Using modern technology, gold nanoparticles are injected into the tumors, the nanoparticles specifically bind to the tumor cells, and a dermatologist focuses a laser on the tumor to heat the gold nanoparticles and kill the tumor.

This is a major advance in the techniques available for removing tumors. As a non-surgical method, this product strives to kill the tumor while limiting damage to adjacent tissues, which speeds healing and reduces scaring.
